A Rock Hall-based charity dedicated to finding homes for abandoned pet rabbits, Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center, Inc. (ESRREC), will hold an informational session, “Learn More About Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue,” at the Kent County Public Library in Chestertown, MD on Saturday January 14 at noon.
The goal of the public meeting is to attract more volunteers and foster families, explained ESRREC President and founder Cora Dickson. “We’ll provide an overview of how we operate,” she said, “including our income and expenses, where the rabbits are coming from, where our adopters are coming from, our outreach efforts in the region, and the challenges that lie ahead.”
Since the shelter on Main Street in Rock Hall started operations in April 2015, ESRREC (which has 501(c)(3) status) has taken in 51 abandoned pet rabbits, out of which 34 have been adopted. ESRREC has also arranged for 40 spay/neuter operations before adoption. Approximately one-third of the rabbits were transferred from the region’s animal shelters, while others were strays or surrendered directly by the owners.
